Blue Ribbon Scapes Case Study
A Bothell, WA customer contacted Andy; they stated that their backyard was not usable, and their steeply graded side yard was treacherous to navigate, especially during and after rainy weather. They wished to have a backyard space worthy of entertaining family and friends and for their three young boys to be able to play. They wanted outdoor stairs to allow for safe passage from the front to the back of the home. In summary, the customer wanted a complete landscape renovation.
Andy met in person with the customer, walked their property, listened carefully to the customer’s ideas for their space. Andy quickly assessed that a wall was necessary to retain a future hardscape and communicated this concept to the customer.
After the consultation, Andy drew up a design concept and included it in the Blue Ribbon bid. The design illustrated how each and every space in the yard would be utilized. The back yard would feature a paver patio under the deck and a synthetic turf play area for the kids. The back yard would seamlessly transition to outdoor stairs along the side of the home and raised, terraced garden beds. Andy incorporated outdoor lighting along the stairs, under the garden bed wall caps, and around the periphery of the turf area.
Blue Ribbon collaborated closely with the customer before starting work, making two rounds of design revisions before finalizing the design.
The customer asked to have the work performed in two phases, starting with the outdoor stairs, and followed by patio, synthetic turf, garden beds, and lighting; Andy agreed to this plan.
During the build phase, Andy sent daily progress photos and explanations to the customer as a way to stay in touch and communicate important elements of the build. After completing work, Andy walked through each and every element of the new space, answering questions about lighting and maintenance.
The customer was thrilled with the final result, and the kids were happy with their new turf.
